Why Permits?

Cities and towns within DFW regulate signs in order to provide a balanced system of signage throughout the metroplex, facilitate communication, promote public safety, minimize visual clutter and enhance property values and business opportunities within the Cities. The requirements for a permanent sign permit vary wildly by city. We have gathered a list of the most common city’s laws or ordinances for reference. Don’t let this stuff get to you though, we help you through it every step of the way.

A “Sign” Means

A sign is any device, fixture, placard or structure that uses any color, form, graphic, illumination, symbol or writing to advertise, announce the purpose of or identify the purpose of a person or entity, or to communicate information of any kind to the public.

Permits are Required When:

Permits are required for all signs erected, moved or substantially modified if the sign exceeds 10 square feet in size and is not an allowable temporary sign. If the sign is lighted, an electrical permit may be required too.

Other Factors

Generally, you must have a professional install your sign if: the sign is electrified, the sign exceeds 32 square feet in area, the sign extends seven feet or more above grade, or the landlord requires an insured or licensed installer.
